چکیده

We introduce CrossY, a simple drawing application we used as a benchmark to demonstrate the feasibility of using goal crossing as the basis for a graphical user interface. We show that crossing is not only as expressive as the current point-and-click interface, but also offers more flexibility in interaction design. In particular, crossing encourages the fluid composition of commands making it easier to create more fluid interfaces. While crossing was previously identified as a potential substitute for the classic point-and-click interaction, this work is the first to report on the practical aspects of implementing an interface based on goal crossing as the fundamental building block.

META-HEURISTIC ALGORITHMS FOR MINIMIZING THE NUMBER OF CROSSING OF COMPLETE GRAPHS AND COMPLETE BIPARTITE GRAPHS

The minimum crossing number problem is among the oldest and most fundamental problems arising in the area of automatic graph drawing. In this paper, eight population-based meta-heuristic algorithms are utilized to tackle the minimum crossing number problem for two special types of graphs, namely complete graphs and complete bipartite graphs. A 2-page book drawing representation is employed for ...

Applying Crossing Reduction Strategies to Layered Compound Graphs

We present a new method for the application of 2-layer crossing reduction algorithms to layered compound graphs. It is based on an algorithm by Sander [9, 7, 8] and improves it with fewer crossings. Our method is optimal in the sense that it does not introduce unnecessary crossings by itself. If used with an optimal 2-layer crossing reduction algorithm, the crossing reduction for 2-layer compou...

SPHier: Scalable Parallel Biclustering Using Weighted Bigraph Crossing Minimization

Biclustering is used for discovering correlations among subsets of attributes with subsets of transactions in a transaction database. It has an extensive set of applications ranging from Gene co-regulation analysis[4], documentkeyword clustering[12] and collaborative filtering for online recommendation systems[13]. In this paper, we propose optimal biclustering problem as maximal crossing numbe...

A Fast and Simple Heuristic for Constrained Two-Level Crossing Reduction

The one-sided two-level crossing reduction problem is an important problem in hierarchical graph drawing. Because of its NPhardness there are many heuristics, such as the well-known barycenter and median heuristics. We consider the constrained one-sided two-level crossing reduction problem, where the relative position of certain vertex pairs on the second level is fixed. Based on the barycenter...

Upward planarization and layout

Drawing directed graphs has many applications and occurs whenever a natural flow of information is to be visualized. Given a directed acyclic graph (DAG) G, we are interested in an upward drawing of G, that is, a drawing of G in which all arcs are drawn as curves that are monotonically increasing in the vertical direction. Besides the upward property, it is desirable that the number of arc cros...
